WHAT WE DO

At APMG Health we’ve been helping health and community systems around the world better meet the needs of their most marginalized community members for nearly 20 years. Our consultants are experts in public health and communities systems, with many coming from populations most affected by HIV, STIs, and other communicable diseases. With experience working in over 70 countries, engaging more than 160 local and international consultants, and building rapport with over a dozen clients, we offer a wide range of expertise, at any scale. From managing multi-year, multi-million dollar projects that support the investments of international funders; to ongoing mentoring and organizational development for community organizations; to targeted, rapid-response technical assistance to support communities—APMG delivers results efficiently, effectively, and reliably. We have the ability to work across multiple languages, including English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and Arabic.

In 2020, APMG rapidly and effectively adapted the way we work to the realities of global health security in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. More information can be found here.

APMG works across SIX thematic areas

Response to SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19)

APMG has responded to the global health security crisis in two ways: (1) Adapting the way we work to ensure the health and safety of our consultants and those who contribute to our work; and (2) brining our best practices related to global health MEL, program and policy design, human rights advocacy and community support to the COVID-19 response.

Monitoring & Evaluation for Learning

APMG understands that data drives decision making, and believes in the necessity of capturing the voices of those most affected by global health challenges. We are dedicated to providing inclusive monitoring and evaluation for learning (MEL) services and technical assistance, and we are known for our ability to include the voices of key populations, adolescent girls and young women, and other vulnerable groups. We have conducted over 80 unique program evaluations on HIV, TB and malaria in the last three years, as well as development of MEL frameworks for grassroots networks.

Policy Development & Program Design

APMG has 18 years of experience developing policies and designing programs for multilateral organizations.  Our clients and partners call on us to support the review and development of national HIV strategies, to assist in optimizing approaches through the design of Investment Cases, and to facilitate the design of programming and prepare funding requests for grants from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and other funders.

Human Rights for Health

To achieve development targets on HIV and health, key populations must enjoy a full range of rights. APMG bases all of its work on respect for human rights and gender sensitivity. We respect diversity and participation of beneficiaries from the design to the implementation and evaluation of programs, as well as ownership by beneficiaries, confidentiality and equity. Our work with people most affected by HIV and other infectious diseases is grounded in the belief that for a response to be effective, those most invested must be empowered and engaged to participate in a self-determined response.

Supporting Community Systems

APMG has has provided ongoing technical assistance for civil society organizations and key population networks, supporting them to approach their work with enhance strategy and vision to achieve better outcomes for the populations they serve. We provide services to organizations to examine and define how they create change, to map organizational strategic, and to develop monitoring and evaluation for learning (MEL) frameworks. We also help larger clients, such as UNAIDS, to design tools that empower communities to share their stories.

Sustainability & Transitions

APMG Health has been at the forefront of the global conversation on the contracting of non-state actors for the provision of HIV and TB services with government funds (“social contracting,” “public financing,” or “community financing”) over the last several years. APMG has been involved in the development and use of a number of tools, frameworks and resources related to social contracting.
